Comfort Measures Refresher Workshop

This two hour hands-on workshop is intended for expectant mothers and their support personnel who have previously completed a prenatal education class, already have children, or those who just want to get down to the crux of birthing comfort measures. In a comfortable atmosphere, you will practice a variety of natural comfort measures including relaxation, visualization, positional, and hands-on labouring techniques so you can face your upcoming birth with increased confidence.

You will...

  • Practice and discuss a variety of comfort measures for childbirth: massage, counter-pressure, use of hot/cold packs, showers, relaxation and visualization techniques, use of upright positions, use of a birthing ball, and more--emphasizing that you should plan to use the comfort measures that mom naturally prefers
  • Develop the knowledge and skills to apply a variety of coping techniques during different phases of your upcoming labour
  •  Know how optimal positioning of the baby can help to prevent or reduce back pain during labour

  • Learn creative and comfortable positions to use during labour and birth
  • Be able to use a variety of comfort measures and strategies if you experience back labour
  • Develop a repertoire of partner assisted comfort measures to use during labour
  •  Learn techniques to breathe your baby out versus directed pushing
